Gardens of Chatworth: The Revelation Water Feature

Angela Conner, the well-known British sculptor, designed “Revelation,” the newest acquisition to the ornamental outdoor fountains of Chatsworth. In celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday celebration, she was commissioned by the deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth made of brass and steel in 2004. Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s oldest ponds, had “Revelation” installed in 1999. Alternatively hiding and displaying a golden globe at the sculpture’s center, the metallic water feature takes on the form of four large flower petals that open and close with the movement of water. 93_201_5102_silo__39209.jpg A steel globe decorated with gold dust was included into the sculpture, which stands five meters in height and five meters wide. This newest water feature is an intriguing and unique improvement to the Gardens of Chatsworth, because the movement of flower petals is completely run by water.

The One Cleaning Solution to NEVER Use On Your Large Outdoor Fountains

Adequate care and regular cleaning are important to the longevity of water fountains. Leaves, twigs, and bugs often find their way into fountains, so it is important to keep yours free from such things. Also, algae tends to build up wherever natural light meets water. Stir hydrogen peroxide, sea salt, or vinegar into the water to avoid this particular problem. Some people opt for pouring bleach into the water, but the problem is that it harms wildlife - so it should be avoided.

A complete cleaning every 3-4 months is best for garden fountains. Before you can start washing it you should empty out all of the water. Once it is empty, wash inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. If there are any little grooves, work with a toothbrush to get every spot. Be sure to completely rinse the inner surface of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.

It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and eliminate any plankton or calcium. Soaking it in vinegar for a bit will make it easier to wash. Build-up can be a big headache, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to eliminate this dilemma.

And finally, make sure the water level is always full in order to keep your fountain running optimally. Low water levels can ruin the pump - and you don't want that!

Anglo-Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest

The introduction of the Normans in the second half of the eleventh century irreparably improved The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. The talent of the Normans exceeded the Anglo-Saxons' in architecture and farming at the time of the conquest. But home life, household architecture, and decoration were out of the question until the Normans taken over the rest of the populace. Monasteries and castles served separate purposes, so while monasteries were massive stone structures constructed in only the most productive, wide dales, castles were set upon blustery knolls where the people focused on understanding offensive and defensive tactics. The bare fortresses did not provide for the calm avocation of gardening. The early Anglo-Norman style of architecture is depicted in Berkeley Castle, which is conceivably the most unscathed illustration we have. The keep is said to date from William the Conqueror's time.
