Statues As a Staple of Classic Art in Historic Greece

p-348__70718.jpg The initial freestanding statuary was developed by the Archaic Greeks, a recognized achievement since until then the sole carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Most of the freestanding statues were of young, winsome male or female (kore) Greeks and are known as kouros figures. The kouroi were seen by the Greeks to typify beauty and were sculpted with one foot leading and an uncompromising rigidity to their forward-facing poses; the male statues were always strapping, brawny, and unclothed. In around 650 BC, the varieties of the kouroi became life-sized. A massive age of improvement for the Greeks, the Archaic period helped bring about newer forms of state, expressions of artwork, and a higher appreciation of people and cultures outside of Greece. However, these conflicts did little to impede the progress of the Greek civilization.

Modern Wall Elements

A wall fountain can be an important design element in your house or office, enough so that it makes a good impression on your family and friends alike. Your wall water feature will not only add style to your living space but also provide calming background sounds. You can leave a lasting impression on your guests with the visual grace and the welcoming sounds of this sort of feature.

A living area with a contemporary style can also benefit from a wall fountain. Stainless steel or glass are two of the materials used to make modern-day types which add a trendy element to your decor. Does your home or office have a limited amount of space?

The perfect option for you is adding a wall water fountain. They take up no space since they are placed on a wall. You may note that many busy office lobbies have fountains. Wall fountains are not limited to indoor use, however. Outdoor wall water features can be manufactured of fiberglass or resin. Liven up your terrace, courtyard, or other outdoor areas with a water fountain made of these water-resistant materials.

There is wide range of unique styles in wall fountains running from the contemporary to classic and rustic. The type most appropriate for your living space depends entirely on your personal design ideas. The materials utilzed to decorate a mountain lodge differ from that needed to beautify a high-rise apartment, the former perhaps requiring slate and the latter better served with sleek glass. It is up to you to select the best material for you. One thing is sure, however, fountains are features which will no doubt dazzle your guests.

Water Fountains for Cats

Does your cat like to jump onto the countertop when he hears the faucet? Does he inspect the water in his bowl with his foot or drink from the toilet? Odd as these behaviors sound, they actually show a cat’s natural instinct to avoid still standing water. They are not compelled to look for water much at all.

Cats in the wild generally get the water they need from meats containing water. As a result, felines never developed the drive to drink water. Pet cats, however, count on you for their water, as they do not get the enough hydration from their meals. Cat fountains are a simple way to provide a water supply for your pet.

If you get one, you can rest easy knowing your pet has easy access to water. You can pick one you know your cat will enjoy since they come in so many unique models. There are fountains that always have continual flowing fresh water while others have a bowl which refills as your cat drinks from it.

Gardens of Chatworth: The Revelation Fountain

“Revelation,” the most recent acquisition to the ornamental garden fountains of Chatsworth, was developed by renowned British sculptor Angela Conner. In 2004/2005 she was commissioned by the now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in brass and steel, for the Queen’s 80th birthday bash. In 1999 Revelation was mounted in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s earliest ponds. Alternatively camouflaging and displaying a golden globe at the sculpture’s heart, the metallic water feature takes on the form of four large petals that open and close with the circulation of water. A gold dust decorated metallic globe was made and added into the big sculpture standing five meters high and five meters wide. The flower petals move depending on the circulation of water, making this installation an intriguing addition to the Chatsworth Garden grounds.

When and Where Did Water Features Emerge?

The translation of hundreds of ancient Greek texts into Latin was commissioned by the learned Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 until 1455. In order to make Rome deserving of being the capital of the Christian world, the Pope decided to enhance the beauty of the city. Restoration of the Acqua Vergine, a ruined Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the bidding of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental celebratory fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a practice which was revived by Nicholas V. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the space formerly filled with a wall fountain built by Leon Battista Albert, an architect commissioned by the Pope. The water which eventually provided the Trevi Fountain as well as the acclaimed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona flowed from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated.

How A Fountain Can Make Your World More Enjoyable

Your quality of life will be positively influenced by a fountain as it not only offers you a place of peace and calm, but also serves to clean the air.

Both an indoor and an outdoor garden fountain will reward you in ways you might not even realize. Water makes up a large portion of our body composition, and populations world-wide tend to gravitate towards coastal areas. While you could invest in an overpriced beach house or jump in the ocean every day to enjoy the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and less costly!

If you want to make your porch, patio, or back yard even more delightful, think about purchasing an outdoor garden fountain. However lovely it already is, your spot will be even more beautiful if you add an outdoor water element from the wide variety available. If you have a screened porch, give some thought to installing one there, or if not, then on the exterior wall above your patio. Add elegance and the lovely sound of flowing water to your flower bed with a tiered model. The flow of the water in birdbath fountains, as compared to still water, means that bacteria and algae will not accumulate in the water, making for cleaner water for wild birds. Perfect your garden area with the calm sound of flowing water.

The Beautiful First Masterpieces by Bernini

Bernini's earliest water fountain, named Barcaccia, is a masterful work of art seen at the foot of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. This spot is still filled with Roman locals and tourists who enjoy exchanging gossip or going over the day's news. The streets neighboring his fountain have come to be one of the city’s most stylish meeting places, something which would certainly have pleased Bernini himself. In about 1630, the great master designed the very first water fountain of his career at the behest of Pope Ubano VIII. Illustrated in the fountain's design is a large vessel slowly sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. The great 16th century flooding of the Tevere, which left the entire region inundated with water, was memorialized by the fountain according to writings from the period. Absenting himself from Italy only once in his life for a long-lasting period of time, in 1665 Bernini traveled to France.
