Make Everyday Life Even Better with a Fountain

From improving air quality to contributing a feeling of serenity to the area, a fountain adds so much to your life.

You might be amazed to learn of all the benefits of being around an indoor or outdoor garden fountain. It is most likely no coincidence that the human body is made up primarily of water, and that people are drawn to coastal cities. While there are many extravagant ways to integrate the benefits of water into your daily life (like investing in a beach house!), a much more convenient solution is to put a water feature in your home.

Enhance any outdoor area by adding a gorgeous outdoor garden fountain. p_365__66501.jpg Outdoor water elements can further improve even the most beautiful space. A wonderful idea is to set up one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. If you have a flower bed, think about installing a beautiful tiered type there to add a feeling of harmony. Birds love birdbath fountains because the flow of the water ensures that it stays clean and does not accumulate bacteria and algae. Add the ultimate touch with the enticing sound of flowing water in your garden.

Environmentally Friendly Outdoor Water fountains

Are you seeking to beautify your residence? Stop looking! Solar water fountains are the ideal solution - they bring beauty to any home and at the same time add financial value to the property. They are the same as electric fountains in that they help with one's overall health but they also offer financial benefits. Even though there may be a significantly greater cost at the beginning, the long-term investment will make it worthwhile. You will not have to worry about energy shortages as your fountain will not be fueled by electricity.

Running water fountains means that your use of electricity will increase and thus your monthly bill. The short-term benefits may not be noticeable, but keep in mind that the increased worth of your home will be later on.

The increased costs resulting from using more electricity is not the only factor, it also damages our eco-system. The only source of energy used by solar powered water features is the sun making them a “green” alternative. Using solar energy to heat or cool your home is much better for our environment.

This kind of water fountain doesn't need as much upkeep as others.

These water features need less cleaning than other kinds. As there is no electrical motor that can get clogged, little cleaning is needed. And less cleaning equals more time to enjoy yourself!

Where are the World’s Tallest Fountains?

Located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the King Fahd Fountain (1985) is the highest continually-functioning fountain in the world. The water reaches the astonishing height of 260 meters (853 feet) over the Red Sea.

Coming in 2nd is the World Cup Fountain located in the Han-Gang River in Seoul, Korea (2002) with water shooting 202 meters (663 feet).

Located next to the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, is third placed Gateway Geyser (1995). It rockets water 192 meters (630 feet) into the air and is currently the tallest fountain in the United States.

Next is Port Fountain (2006) in Karachi, Pakistan, where the water shoots 190 meters (620 feet) high.

Number 4: Fountain Park (1970), Fountain Hills, Arizona - although it can reach heights of 171 meters (561 feet) when all three pumps are operating, it only reaches 91 meters (300 feet) on a normal day.

The Dubai Fountain opened in 2009 next to Burj Khalifa - the world's highest building.

It dances to pre-recorded music every half hour and rockets water to the height of 73 meters (240 feet) - it also has extreme shooters which reach 150 meters (490 feet), though these are only used on special occasions.

Making it in the top 8 is the Captain James Cook Memorial Jet in Canberra (1970) which measures 147 meters (482 feet).

Lastly is the Jet d’Eau (1951) in Geneva, Switzerland, which measures 140 meters (460 feet).

Wall Fountains: Many Design Alternatives

A garden wall fountain is ideal when you do not have much room available. These works of art do not require much room and are quick to mount on any wall. Prices range from cheap to expensive and there are many designs available so everyone should be able to find the best model for them. You can find countless unique color options as well as sizes. For anyone looking to add some pizzazz to their outdoor walls, these stunning water fountains are a fantastic option. If you want a different waterfall effect, think about installing more than one fountain if you have space available on your wall.

When it comes time to choosing a garden fountain, there are plenty of choices available. The model you want and where to mount it are the first things to determine.

How Many Variations of Garden Fountains Can I Choose From?

Gardens allow you to escape into nature and be outside whenever you want. Although there is a lot of work involved in getting a new one designed and constructed, it is worth the effort for anyone who will be using it. Investing in a breathtaking garden is good, as it will enhance the “curb appeal” and value of your home. A water feature is not the only way to improve your landscape; consider adding trees and bushes, paving your driveway, or even putting in some eye-catching statues.

The visual appeal of any garden can be really improved by just adding a water fountain. Where you once had a plain area, you will now enjoy an outdoor wonderland. The trickling water of your fountain will not only give you a calming retreat, it will also attract wild birds and other friendly local critters. The rest of the garden will immediately become just background to the charming new fountain.

Keeping Your Water Wall Fountain Clean

Appropriate care and regular upkeep are important to the longevity of water fountains. It is essential to clean it out and remove any debris or foreign elements that might have dropped into or onto it. Also, algae has a tendency to build up any place natural light meets water. To prevent this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add straight into the water. There are those who choose to use bleach, but that is hazardous to any animals that might drink or bathe in the water - so should therefore be avoided.

Every 3-4 months, garden fountains should have a serious cleaning. The first step is to empty out all of the water. Then use a soft cloth and gentle cleanser to scrub the inside. Feel free to use a toothbrush if helpful for any tiny crevasses. Make sure all the soap is totally cleaned off.

Some organisms and calcium deposits can get inside the pump, so it is best to take it apart and clean it completely. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it quicker to wash. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to prevent any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you see that the level is too low. Allowing the water level to get too low can result in damage to the pump - and you certainly don't want that!

Agrippa’s Magnificent Water-lifting Machine

Although the machine developed by Agrippa for lifting water earned the esteem of Andrea Bacci in 1588, it seemed to disappear not long thereafter. It could perhaps be that in 1592 when Rome’s latest conduit, the Acqua Felice, started providing the Villa Medici, there was no longer a great deal use for the system. The simpler explanation is that it was forgotten about when Ferdinando left for Florence in 1588, following the passing of his brother Francesco di Medici, to trade his place as cardinal for one as the Grand Duke of Tuscany. #P# Renaissance landscapes of the later part of the sixteenth century happened to be home to works such as music water features, scenographic water presentations and water caprices (giochi d’acqua), but these were not outfitted with water in ways which defied the force of gravity itself.
