Gardens of Chatworth and the "Revelation" Water Fountain

Angela Conner, the well-known British sculptor, crafted “Revelation,” the most recent addition to the appealing exterior fountains of Chatsworth. In 2004/5 she was commissioned by the late 11th Duke of Devonshire to design a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in brass and steel, for the Queen’s 80th birthday. Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s oldest ponds, had “Revelation” placed in 1999. It takes on the configuration of four large petals made from metal which open and closes with the water circulation, alternatively hiding and revealing a golden globe at the sculpture’s center. A steel globe painted with gold dust was incorporated into the sculpture, which rests five meters high and five meters wide. win454__91599.jpg This newest water feature is an intriguing and interesting extension to the Gardens of Chatsworth, because the movement of petals is completely powered by water.

Do People Profit from Wall Fountains

Patients recognize the difference on their well being as well as on the environment of the room when there is a water element on display at the doctor’s or dentist’s office. It may be that you have considered featuring one in your company's waiting room. You may be looking for some design ideas for the waiting room of your new or remodeled car showroom, medical office, tax office, spa, or some other kind of business.

Clients often become more nervous the longer they have to wait for an appointment. The wait might cause them to continually monitor the time while thinking about everything they have yet to do. Guests or patients may overlook extended waiting times when they are distracted by the sound of a water wall fountain. The sounds and appearance of gently flowing water produce a state of peace and help calm the mind.

Depending on the weather, most companies turn on the air conditioning or heat in their waiting rooms. Dry air is generally the effect of turning on the air conditioning or the heat. Your wall fountain will release a sufficient quantity of moisture into the air while not making it too damp. This kind of atmosphere will be of benefit to both you and the employees who are in the office all day. The dry air contributes to making you vulnerable to ailments since it acts on the mucous membranes.

Scratchy skin, chapped lips, irritated eyes, matte hair, and brittle nails are some of the effects of this kind of environment. The use of water fountains is a great, natural way to humidify the environment.

In addition, wall water fountains make sufficient sounds to muffle unwanted clamor making the environment more pleasant. The noise of medical equipment, phones, faxes, or office clamor is not pleasing to the ear. Unappealing noises will not be completely eliminated but they will not be as annoying to your guests.

Fountains also add to a healthy environment and make a good impression. They can be helpful if you are looking for a unique selling point. You can also create a valuable marketing tool by putting your company name or logo on a water fountain.

The Source of Today's Outdoor Water Fountains

Himself a learned man, Pope Nicholas V headed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 till 1455 and was responsible for the translation of hundreds of age-old texts from their original Greek into Latin. Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the heart of his objectives. Restoration of the Acqua Vergine, a ruined Roman aqueduct which had carried fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the behest of the Pope. The ancient Roman custom of marking the entry point of an aqueduct with an magnificent celebratory fountain, also known as a mostra, was restored by Nicholas V. At the behest of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti undertook the construction of a wall fountain in the spot where we now find the Trevi Fountain.

Adjustments and extensions, included in the repaired aqueduct, eventually provided the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.

Your Garden: An Ideal Spot for a Garden Fountain

You can improve your exterior area by including a wall fountain or an outdoor garden water feature to your yard or gardening project. Many modern designers and craftsmen have been inspired by historical fountains and water features. As such, the impact of integrating one of these to your home decor connects it to past times. Among the many attributes of these beautiful garden water features is the water and moisture they discharge into the air which attracts birds and other wild life as well as helps to balance the ecosystem. For example, pesky flying insects are usually deterred by the birds drawn to the fountain or birdbath.

Wall fountains are a good alternative if your yard is small because they do not need much space in comparison to a spouting or cascading fountain. There are two types of fountains to pick from including the freestanding model with a flat back and an attached basin set up against a fence or a wall in your yard, or the wall-mounted, self-contained version which is suspended directly on a wall. Both a fountain mask located on the existing wall as well as a basin located at the bottom to collect the water are equired if you wish to add a fountain. Since the plumbing and masonry work is extensive to complete this type of job, you should hire a specialist to do it rather than attempt to do it alone.

Fountains With More Than One Tier

Gardens are common places to display a multi-tiered fountain, a style which has historically been very fashionable. These types of fountains are common in Italy, Spain, and other Mediterranean countries. The courtyards of buildings and communal areas are just two the areas you might see one. Beautiful carvings can be found on some of the most sophisticated tiered fountains, while others have much simpler designs.

People love to feature them in spots having a classic look and feel. The fountain should blend right into the setting as if it has been there since the beginning.

Agrippa's Eye-popping, but Mostly Forgotten Water-Lifting Mechanism

The praise Agrippa’s water-lifting creation received from Andrea Bacci in 1588 was temporal. It may have come to be outdated once the Villa Medici was able to obtain water from the Acqua Felice, the early contemporary aqueduct, in 1592. The more likely conclusion is that the unit was deserted once Franceso di Medici, Ferdinando’s siblingdied in 1588, leading him to give up his rank as cardinal and return to Florence where he received the throne as the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Although there were various other worthwhile water-driven designs either designed or built during the late sixteenth century, such as scenographic water presentations, giochi d’acqua or water caprices, and melodious water fountains, none was nourished by water like Agrippa’s technology.
