Bernini's Outdoor Fountains

2212-12404__10727.jpg There are lots of famous Roman water features in its city center. One of the most distinguished sculptors and designers of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini fashioned, conceived and built almost all of them. Also a city architect, he had skills as a fountain designer, and traces of his life's work are evident throughout the avenues of Rome. To completely express their skill, chiefly in the form of community water fountains and water features, Bernini's father, a celebrated Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they eventually moved in Rome. An exemplary worker, Bernin received compliments and the the backing of popes and well known painters. Initially he was recognized for his sculpting skills. An authority in classic Greek engineering, he used this knowledge as a starting point and melded it gracefully with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican. Though a variety of artists impacted his artistic endeavors, Michelangelo inspired him the most.

The Benefits of Installing an Indoor Wall Water Fountain

One way to accentuate your home with a modern style is by adding an indoor wall fountain to your living area. You can create a noise-free, stress-free and comforting ambiance for your family, friends and customers by installing this type of fountain. Your employees and customers alike will take notice and complement your new interior wall water feature. An interior water feature is certain to captivate all those who see it while also impressing your loudest naysayers.

You can enjoy the peace and quiet after a long day at work and enjoy watching your favorite program while relaxing under your wall fountain. The musical sounds produced by an indoor water element are known to discharge negative ions, eliminate dust and pollen from the air as well as sooth and pacify those in its vicinity.

Water Fountains: Great for Wildlife

Putting in an outdoor water fountain or a bird feeder will allow you to delight in the natural presence of wildlife or pets. The truth is that birds require water to: drink, bathe and preen. Birds including robins, thrushes, orioles, or warblers like the movement of water from a fountain and are not necessarily drawn to bird feeders.

Many flying creatures enjoy running water instead of still water, thus making such outdoor features much more appealing than bowl shaped birdbaths. Trickling fountains that splash around are heard from a distance, attracting even more birds.

Dogs are attracted to fountains because they provide refreshing water to drink. Hot days drive dogs and cats to anxiously look for the freshest water nearby. Because water in fountains is consistently moving, they do not need much cleaning, whereas the still water of birdbaths collect debris and require more attention.

Musical Fountains and Their Beautiful Notes

The three-dimensional images produced by musical fountains, or dancing fountains, is a kind of animated, attractively fashioned fountain used for entertainment reasons. The resulting effect of timed sound waves and timed light - including lasers- hitting against water molecules creates an amazing show. The water must be refracted and reflected to generate the spectacular three-dimensional images.

To create such an installation, hundreds of lights and water jets are required, and can end up costing millions of dollars. Such a massive musical feature is very complex to build because of all the technical, hydraulic, and electrical elements required to create the amazing effects - and could be considered more amazing than the actual show.

The jaw-dropping musical fountain in Dubai is without a doubt the largest such project globally. Spanning the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, it was the brainchild of California-based company WET Design, who was launched to fame for their breathtaking fountain design at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. This fountain requires an incredible 6,600 lights, 25 colored projectors, fog and fire. It measures 275 m (902 ft) in length and jets water 150 m (490 ft) into the sky - which is comparable to a 50-story building - and is accompanied by various styles of music from classical to contemporary Arabic to world music. The total cost was exceptional - an estimated 218 million US dollars. The Dubai Mall and the fountain were formally opened on May 8, 2009 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. One has the perfect view of the fountain, located in front of the Burj Khalifa, from the Souk Al Bahar or the Dubai Mall.

Choose from all Sorts of Outdoor Water Features

Have you ever thought about converting your garden into a haven of tranquility? Integrating a fountain into your yard provides tranquility as well as numerous powerful effects that come with having a water feature.

A dramatic impact is made when a spouting fountain sends a shooting stream of water up into the air. Large, existing ponds can easily be fitted with one of these. You can find these in public recreational areas or old mansions.

One of the many examples of an outdoor water feature is a chic wall fountain. Even with a small yard, it is possible to put in one of these water features. Spouting fountains normally make quite an impact whereas wall features are more of a subtle kind of water feature. In this simple process. the water which is forced out of a small opening, streams down a beautifully textured wall and is then collected at the base before being pushed back to the top.

Themed fountains are best when the style of your garden allows for them. A cherub holding a spout is one of the possible kinds of classical-styled statues you can use if you want your fountain to compliment a rustically themed cottage or garden. Modern-day gardens, on the other hand, benefit from something more adventurous. Just permit your creativity to run loose.

The main attribute of tiered fountains is the multiple levels spewing out water. Water flowing down multiple tiers of this water feature is the main characteristic of a cascading fountain.

The space necessary for an outdoor fountain can be extensive, therefore, a better solution is to install a wall fountain or a pondless fountain. These types of water features are suitable for an area with limited space because their reservoirs are concealed underground.

If you seek a feeling of serenity and calmness, install a Japanese fountain as these are believed to bring about such sensations. In this model of water feature the water runs through bamboo sticks. The repetition of water streaming into a bucket or shaped stone is one of the main characteristics of this sort of fountain.

Glass fountains make up a different group of fountain. Providing a more classical look are trellis-style fountains which feature shaped metalwork. Water features of this kind are a perfect alternative for gardens with many sharp edges as well as contemporary forms and design. The water produces a stunning effect when it runs down the outside of the glass. LED lights are also used in some fountains to flash color across the water as it flows down on the glass sheet. Often made of imitation rock, rock waterfall fountains have water gently trickling down its surface.

Bubbling rock fountains are large rocks drilled with holes which are then filled with pipes in the center. Low pressure is employed to push up the water which then bubbles and gurgles at the top. Water then streams as a slow trickle down the sides of the rock to its base. Gardens with little space are good places to include this style of fountain. To guarantee that water is not sprayed around if it starts to get windy, this kind of fountain is the best choice since it only uses low pressure to move water.

The trend of setting up solar powered fountains is becoming increasingly widespread. There are numerous reasons for this newly found appeal such as the absence of cables, less difficulty in running them, a decrease in electricity bills, and the benefits to the environment. It is not necessary to choose a specific model of outdoor solar-powered fountain because of the wide range of styles found on the market.

What Are Outdoor Fountains Created From?

Most modern garden fountains come in metal, although various other types exist. Those made from metals have clean lines and attractive sculptural elements, and are flexible enough to fit any budget and decor. Your outdoor design should complement the style of your home.

A common choice today is copper, and it is used in the designing of many sculptural garden fountains. Copper is used in cascade and tabletop water fountains as well as many other styles, making it perfect for inside and outside fountains. Copper is also flexible enough that you can choose a range of styles for your fountain, from contemporary to whimsical.

If your style is more conventional, a brass water fountain might be perfect for you. Although it is not the most modern, the creatures and sculptural features you find on fountains are mostly made of brass, thus making them very popular.

The most contemporary metal right now is probably stainless steel. Adding a modern-looking steel design will immediately add value to your garden and enhance the overall atmosphere. As with all fountains, you can get any size you choose.

Fiberglass fountains are well liked because they look similar to metal but are more affordable and much less difficult to move around. The maintenance of fiberglass water fountains is quite simple, so they have many advantages that people appreciate.

Gardens of Chatworth and the Revelation Garden Fountain

Created by well-known English sculptor Angela Conner, "Revelation" is the latest addition to the Chatsworth ornamental exterior water fountains. In celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday, she was commissioned by the deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth designed of brass and steel in 2004. One of Chatsworth’s first ponds, Jack Pond, had “Revelation” installed in it in 1999. It takes the configuration of four big flower petals designed from metal which opens and closes with the water movement, alternatively camouflaging and revealing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s heart. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was made from steel and then painted with gold dust. The petals move depending on the flow of water, making this installation an intriguing addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth.
