How to Select the Ideal Spot for Your Fountain

One of the first things to consider when picking a water fountain is exactly where you intend to put it. They make gorgeous centerpieces in roundabouts and make a nice impression in driveways and entryways too. 6810_0703__49864.jpg

If you want to put yours against a wall, there are fountains designed expressly for this purpose. They can be attached against a wall, post, or fence by using a bar or a hook attached to the back. Since the top part of your fountain is not stable on its own, make certain that it is secure against a wall to avoid damage caused by strong winds, wild animals, or other natural hazards.

A typical place to add a garden sculpture is traditionally in areas where people come together to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

At What Point Did Water Fountains Emerge?

Hundreds of classic Greek records were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who led the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. He undertook the embellishment of Rome to make it into the model seat of the Christian world. Reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a desolate Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the behest of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental dedicatory fountain built by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a custom which was restored by Nicholas V. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the space formerly filled with a wall fountain built by Leon Battista Albert, an architect commissioned by the Pope. The Trevi Fountain as well as the well-known baroque fountains found in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the altered aqueduct he had rebuilt.

Michelangelo’s Roman Wall Fountains

Michelangelo and Ammannati, two celebrated Florentine artists, made the first Roman wall fountains during the 16th century. The earliest fountain Michelangelo designed came in 1536 with the construction of the Campidoglio in Rome which was to make part of the Palazzo Senatorio's façade. The building of a conduit from the Aqua Felice to the Capitol, which allowed for a more spectacular water display, was included years later. Michelangelo, however, had expected this which led to addition of a larger basin styled on the forms of the late Cinquecento.

Was the famed artist the mastermind of the wall fountain? His designs undoubtedly influenced the design of fountain which dominates throughout Italy. More examples of this sort of structure can be seen in the Fountain of the River Gods at the Villa Lante, Bagnaia 1, and the Fountain of the Mugnone which is set between flights of stairs on the central axis of the Villa Pratolino.

Regrettably, Michelangelo was destined to put his own abilities aside and combine classical elements into fountains based on Roman styles. Julius III (1550-1555) decided to have a fountain built at the top of the Belvedere in the Vatican and instructed the Florentine master to design a special wall fountain. A marble sculpture of Moses striking a stone streaming water was to be built as embellishment for the fountain. The idea of the Moses figure was abandoned, however, because of the time it would take to build it and was therefore replaced by an antique image of Cleopatra.

An ancient figure was thought to be simpler to erect over the fountain than the creation of a completely new statue by the famed artist.

Guidelines for Setting Up a Garden Water Fountain

A water source and an electrical outlet are two crucial items that many people do not think about when determining where they want to setup their garden fountain. Occasionally new owners get so caught up in the thrill of their new purchase that they forget critical details. Since standard power cords are only 12 feet in length, you might need to attach an extension cord to reach the most convenient 120v outlet. It will be necessary to fill your fountain with water so make sure there is a source of water close by. It is tough to move water from one location to another. A nearby hose can make filling the fountain much easier. A water fountain autofill will make your life simpler in the long run, but this requires a specialist to install since it must be connected to an external water line.

Admire the Unique Design of The Cascade Fountain at Garden of Chatsworth

The Cascade garden fountain provides a spectacular focal point to the gardens and sits at the back of Chatsworth House. Twenty-four irregularly spaced stone steps in a series run along 200 yards in the direction of the residence and down the hillside. The Cascade, also entirely gravity fed, is based on a 17th century French format. This water fountain has continued the same after being designed for the first Duke of Devonshire in 1696. Positioned at the top of the fountain is the Cascade House, from which water runs downward. A compact structure, the house is adorned on the exterior with sea creatures in bas-relief. Water pressure to the Cascade can be increased on special moments, causing the Cascade House to become part of the Cascade display, as water moves through conduits on its roof and from the mouths of its carved sea creatures, before continuing along the Cascade. Offering a fantastic and comforting accompaniment to a stroll through the gardens, the minor difference in size of every step means that the sound of the water cascading down differs as it falls along the Cascades. In 2004, Chatsworth's Cascade, was voted England's best water feature.

Setting up a Wall Water Feature in Your House

Any room will benefit from the inclusion of a wall fountain. The effects of the water sounds include providing serenity and calm to the room. Entryways are common places for wall fountains, but they can also be installed in any common living area. The best way to mount one depends on the style, but the standard procedure is the same. Note that different components will need to be put together during assembly. You should first attach the bottom to the upper portion, then connect the pump and the tubing. The directions should be read first to make sure it is put together correctly. The set-up process is quite simple to understand. Keep in mind, though, that each design might need a slight adjustment. Have a colleague hold the wall fountain in the desired location, then mark the wall as necessary. To ensure it will be straight, get a level. Both the upper end and the bottom should be marked. Wall fountains can be hung in more than one way. You will see slots on the back side of the wall fountain which can be mounted directly onto the screws. Alternatively, brackets can be secured to the wall. This alternative tends to be recommended for big wall fountains. Mark the spot on the wall where the brackets need to be attached. Utilize a drill to make the pilot holes on the wall for the drywall anchors. Gently tap on the anchors with a hammer to embed them into the wall. Attach the brackets by ensuring they are level and then screwing them into the wall with a drill or screwdriver. At this point, hoist your unit and place it on the mounting brackets. Be certain it is both secure and level. Water can be added as soon as the fountain has been positioned. The pump should be fully submerged under water. The water will start to flow as soon as you plug in your fountain. Gently add more water until it comes within an inch of the top of the basin. Be aware that it will overflow when not pumping if you fill it to the very top. The water level will rise because all of the moving water will settle down at the bottom part of the basin. If the fountain is too full, water can spill out and cause damage to the immediate area.

Use a Outdoor Fountain To Help Improve Air Quality

An otherwise lackluster ambiance can be livened up with an indoor wall fountain. Installing this sort of indoor feature positively affects your senses and your general well-being. The science behind the theory that water fountains can be good for you is undeniable. The negative ions emitted by water features are offset by the positive ions released by modern-day conveniences. The negative ions generated by these kinds of water features overtake the positive ones resulting in positive changes to both your psychological and physical wellness. You can become more alert, calm and lively due to an increase in the serotonin levels resulting from these types of features. Due to the negative ions it releases, an indoor wall fountain can improve your spirits and also eliminate impurities in the air. Water features also help in eliminating allergens, pollutants among other types of irritants. Lastly, the dust particles and micro-organisms floating in the air inside your house are absorbed by water fountains leading to better overall health.
