Aqueducts: The Remedy to Rome's Water Challenges

With the development of the first raised aqueduct in Rome, the Aqua Anio Vetus in 273 BC, people who lived on the city’s hillsides no longer had to depend entirely on naturally-occurring spring water for their requirements. 2505-ag__34761.jpg When aqueducts or springs weren’t easily accessible, people living at raised elevations turned to water drawn from underground or rainwater, which was made available by wells and cisterns. To furnish water to Pincian Hill in the early 16th century, they implemented the emerging approach of redirecting the movement from the Acqua Vergine aqueduct’s underground network. The aqueduct’s channel was made attainable by pozzi, or manholes, that were situated along its length when it was initially engineered. The manholes made it less demanding to maintain the channel, but it was also achievable to use buckets to remove water from the aqueduct, as we discovered with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he bought the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he passed away. Even though the cardinal also had a cistern to get rainwater, it didn’t supply enough water. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran underneath his residential property.

Things to Consider When Installing a Garden Fountain

Two things many people ignore when planning the installation of a garden fountain is a suitable water source and an electrical outlet close by. People sometimes overlook the technical information because they get caught up in the excitement of putting in their newest purchase. Most power cords are 12 feet long and call for a 120v outdoor electrical outlet, though an extension cord can always be added. A practical place to get water is essential since you will need to fill your fountain. It is tough to move water from one spot to another. The best way to fill the fountain is with a nearby hose. The ideal setup is with a water fountain autofill, but this has to be connected to an external water line and needs a skilled person to install it.

The Fascinating Origin of the Water Wall Fountain

Countless of ancient Greek documents were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who led the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. Continuing to improve the city's reputation, he ordered the rebuilding of the inoperable Acqua Vergine aqueduct in the year 1453. This aqueduct soon began supplying fresh water to the capital from 13 kms away. The Pope also restarted the tradition of using spectacular and beautiful public fountains, known as "mostras", to mark the entry point of an aqueduct. Designer Leon Alberti was commissioned to build a wall fountain, a project which grew in size and scope until it turned into the famous Trevi Fountain of Rome. Pope Nicholas V's commitment to making Rome the center of the Christian community, and provide a source of quality drinking water to her citizens led to the concept of the wall fountain.

Green Outdoor Garden Fountains

Have you always wanted to beautify the look of your house? Stop looking! Solar water fountains are the perfect solution - they bring elegance to any home and at the same time add financial value to the property. They are the same as electric fountains in that they help with one's overall health but they also offer financial benefits. While you may spend a bit upfront, the savings that you make in the long-run are worth it. Electrical power shortages will no longer hinder utilizing your fountain since it will run on the energy of the sun.

Constant running water fountains will most probably lead to a higher electric bill at the end of the month. Even though you might not instantly see the short-term benefits, remember that your residence will certainly gain in value in the long-term.

The increased costs resulting from using more electricity is not the only factor, it also damages our eco-system. Becoming “green” is just one of the advantages of installing a solar water fountain running only on the power of the sun. Using solar energy to heat or cool your house is much better for our environment.

This kind of fountain demands less upkeep than others. Clogs don't occur since there is no motor - which means less cleaning. And less cleaning means more time to play!
