Where did Large Outdoor Fountains Originate from?

A water fountain is an architectural piece that pours water into a basin or jets it high into the air in order to supply drinkable water, as well as for decorative purposes.

Pure functionality was the original purpose of fountains. Inhabitants of urban areas, townships and small towns used them as a source of drinking water and a place to wash up, which meant that fountains had to be linked to nearby aqueduct or spring. Until the late 19th, century most water fountains functioned using gravity to allow water to flow or jet into the air, therefore, they needed a supply of water such as a reservoir or aqueduct located higher than the fountain. Acting as an element of decoration and celebration, fountains also supplied clean, fresh drinking water. The main materials used by the Romans to build their fountains were bronze or stone masks, mostly illustrating animals or heroes. During the Middle Ages, Muslim and Moorish garden designers included fountains in their designs to re-create the gardens of paradise. King Louis XIV of France wanted to demonstrate his dominion over nature by including fountains in the Gardens of Versailles. The Romans of the 17th and 18th centuries manufactured baroque decorative fountains to exalt the Popes who commissioned them as well as to mark the spot where the restored Roman aqueducts entered the city.

Since indoor plumbing became the standard of the day for fresh, drinking water, by the end of the 19th century urban fountains were no longer needed for this purpose and they became purely decorative. The introduction of unique water effects and the recycling of water were two things made possible by swapping gravity with mechanical pumps.

Embellishing city parks, honoring people or events and entertaining, are some of the uses of modern-day fountains.

Fountains As Water Features

A water feature is a big element which has water streaming in or through it. The range of goods available run the gamut from uncomplicated suspended wall fountains to intricate courtyard tiered fountains. These products are so multipurpose that they can be placed outside or indoors. Water features comprise ponds and pools as well.

Garden wall fountains are important additions to your living spaces such as backyards, yoga studios, cozy patios, apartment balconies, or office buildings. There is nothing better to relax you while also stimulating your senses of sight and hearing than the gratifying sounds of gently flowing water in your fountain. With their visibly pleasing form you can also use them to accentuate the decor in your home or other living space. Gently moving water not only results in a feeling of peace, it also masks bothersome noises and produces a captivating water show.

Water Features for Felines

Anytime your cat hears water running in the kitchen, does he come running? Do you find him guzzling toilet water or waiting before drinking water from his own dish? Although these actions might seem peculiar, in fact they are common because cats shy away from water that is not moving. They are not motivated to look for water much at all.

Felines in the wild typically get the hydration they need from meats containing water. For this reason, an instinctual longing for water never evolved in felines. Pet cats, however, depend on you for their water, as they do not get the adequate hydration from their foods. Make water easily available to your cat by putting in a cat fountain.

Limitless fresh water will continually be available to your pet if you install one. Fountains come in many shapes and sizes, so be sure to select one that best fits the needs of your cat. Fountains can have continually moving water for freshness, or a receptacle that fills up as your cat empties it.

The Perk of Having a WalI Fountain in your Reception Area

A patient's state of mind as well as the environment around them can be much improved when a water feature is on display in the waiting room of your local medical or dental practice. Perhaps you have even considered including one in your own workplace. You may be looking for some decorating ideas for the waiting room of your new or revamped car dealership, medical practice, tax office, spa, or some other type of business.

Apprehension may well be the result in clients who have been waiting long. They sit there checking the time on their phones and start thinking about all the errands yet to be done. A wall water fountain in your reception area, however, could distract the person just enough for them to disregard the amount of time they have been waiting. If you want to relax your waiting customers or patients, the sound and look of moving water may be the solution.

Most businesses turn on the heat or air conditioning in their waiting area as soon as there is a change in weather. Dry air is typically the result of turning on the air conditioning or the heat. Evaporating water from your wall fountain can add just the right amount of moisture to the air, making the environment more enjoyable rather than unpleasant from too much humidity. This balance is good for both you and the people who work in this setting the entire day. Dried-out air affects the mucous membranes in your body which can make you more vulnerable to sickness. Moreover, it conributes to dry lips and skin as well as scratchy eyes, matte hair, and brittle nails. The natural humidity generated by water fountains is great for your health.

Unpleasent clatter is also reduced by the sound of wall water fountains, thereby creating a more comfortable environment. Medical equipment, phones, faxes, and office jabber produce unpleasant noises. While the noises your guests hear will be less annoying, they will not be completely cancelled out.

Both guests and clients alike will not only be left with a a memorable impression, they will also benefit from the healthy setting. Purchasing this kind of water fountain could give you the competitive advantage you seek. Including the name of your company or its logo on a wall water fountain provides you a powerful sales tool as well.

The Revelation Water Fountain at the Gardens of Chatsworth

“Revelation,” the latest addition to the ornamental outdoor fountains of Chatsworth, was designed by recognized British sculptor Angela Conner. In 2004/5 she was commissioned by the late 11th Duke of Devonshire to produce a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in brass and steel, for the Queen’s 80th birthday bash. One of Chatsworth’s first ponds, Jack Pond, had “Revelation” installed in it in 1999. Taking on the shape of four big petals which open and close with the flow of water, the metallic fountain alternatively conceals and reveals a golden globe at the heart of the sculpture. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was built from steel and then coated with gold dust. This newest water fountain is an intriguing and innovative addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth, unique in that the motion of the flower petals is entirely driven by water.
